What is a Muslim biodata for marriage?
A marriage biodata is a short summary of a person for a rishta. It helps the other family understand who you are, your family background, your education and work, how you practise your faith and what you are looking for. Keep it to one page, and keep it honest and simple. A good biodata saves time, because families can decide quickly whether it is worth going further.
What to include
- Name, or initials if you prefer more privacy at first
- Age or date of birth, and height
- Marital status: never married, divorced or widowed
- Languages spoken
- Education and professional qualifications
- Work: job title or business, and city (employer name is optional)
- Religious practice and school of thought, if you wish
- Family details: parents' occupations, number of siblings and their marital status
- Where the family lives
- Expectations: age range, education, location, family values
- How to contact the family: through a parent, Wali or bureau

Share more only when both families are serious. If you share your biodata widely on WhatsApp groups, anyone can forward it, so share it directly with the people you trust.

How to make a biodata for marriage in 5 steps
- Pick a template. Use the boy or girl format above, in Word or PDF.
- Fill in the facts. Use accurate details. A small honest biodata is better than a long exaggerated one.
- Keep it to one page. Short and clear is easier to read.
- Remove private details. Delete ID numbers, your full address and personal phone numbers.
- Share it carefully. Send it directly to people you trust, or submit it to HumNikah. Do not post it in public groups.
Tips for the person and for parents
- Be honest about marital status, education and work. A hidden detail causes more harm than an honest one.
- Write expectations that are realistic and respectful, and avoid demands about looks or complexion.
- Do not mention dowry. Mahr is discussed between the families later.
- Parents should involve the son or daughter in writing the biodata, so it reflects the person.
- Update the biodata when anything changes, such as a new job.
- Once a rishta comes, use our checklist to verify a Muslim rishta.
Common biodata mistakes to avoid
- Making it too long. More than one page is rarely read. Keep only what helps a family decide.
- Exaggerating. Inflated education, job or income will be found out, and it damages trust.
- Leaving out marital status. Always state it clearly, because hiding it causes the most harm.
- Using outdated details. Check that age, job and city are current.
- Listing long demands. A page of conditions makes a family feel judged. Keep expectations short.
- Using heavily edited photographs. If you share a photograph, make sure it looks like you.
- Sharing it everywhere. Send it to people you trust, not to every group.
- Mismatched details. If your biodata says one thing and your documents another, families will notice.
Biodata for a divorcee or widow
Remarriage is an honourable new beginning, and your biodata should say so plainly and respectfully. Use the same format above, and:
- write the marital status clearly: divorced, widow or widower
- if you have children, say how many, their ages and who they live with, and leave the rest for a conversation between the families
- keep the reason for the earlier marriage ending short and factual, or leave it for a private conversation with elders
- state what you are looking for honestly, for example a partner who will welcome your children

FAQs
Can I use this Muslim biodata format on WhatsApp?
Yes, but send it directly to people you trust rather than to large groups. A biodata in a public group can be forwarded or screenshotted, so leave out personal phone numbers and full addresses.
Should I add a photograph to my biodata?
It is optional. Many families share a photograph only after both sides are serious. You can write "photograph available on request".
Which is better, Word or PDF?
Use Word to edit your details. Use PDF to share, because the layout stays the same on every phone and computer.
What should I write under expectations?
Keep it short and respectful: age range, education, location and family values. Avoid demands about looks, complexion or dowry.
Is my biodata private at HumNikah?
We do not post your biodata publicly, and we will not add you to any group without your permission. We share it only with families we introduce, with your consent.
