Short answer: To make a Muslim marriage biodata, keep it to one page and follow six steps: choose a format, write your personal details, add education and work, describe your family, state your expectations briefly and give a contact through a parent or Wali. Be honest, leave out ID numbers, bank details and your full address, and download our free Word or PDF template. Submitting your biodata to HumNikah is free.
A biodata is usually the first thing another family reads about you. A clear and respectful one makes a good first impression and saves everyone's time, because families can quickly see whether it is worth going further. Many people find it hard to write, so this guide goes through it one step at a time.
If you only want to copy a layout, use our Muslim biodata format for marriage. If you want to understand what to write in each part, read on.
Step 1: Choose a format
Pick one simple, one-page layout. A plain table or a short list of headings is easier to read on a phone than a decorated design. Use a Word file so that you can edit it, and save a PDF copy to share, because a PDF looks the same on every phone and computer.
Separate templates for a boy and a girl are included at the end of this guide. The girl's version includes a Wali, because contact normally goes through him.
Step 2: Write your personal details
Start with the basics, and keep them accurate:
- Name: your full name, or only initials if you prefer more privacy at first
- Age or date of birth: one of the two is enough
- Height: in feet and inches or in centimetres
- Marital status: never married, divorced or widowed. Always state it clearly. Hiding it causes far more harm than stating it honestly.
- Languages: the languages you speak, for example Urdu, English, Hindi or a regional language
- School of thought: optional, and only if you wish to mention it
Step 3: Add education and work
Write your highest qualification and the institution, then your current job or business and the city you work in. The employer's name is optional. If you are studying, a homemaker or looking for work, say so plainly.
Only include what helps a family decide. A long list of skills, projects or marks makes a biodata read like a job application, and the important details get lost.
Step 4: Describe your family
Add a few lines about:
- your father's and mother's occupations
- the number of brothers and sisters, and whether they are married or studying
- the city or area where your family lives
You do not need to give an exact address. A locality and a city are enough at this stage.
Step 5: State your expectations
Write a short, respectful paragraph. Mention the age range, the kind of education or work you would like to see, your location preference and the values that matter to you. Keep it to a few lines.
Long lists of conditions make a family feel judged before they have even met you. Avoid demands about looks or complexion, and do not mention dowry. Mahr is a matter for the two families to discuss later.
Step 6: Add a safe contact
A biodata that will be shared widely should not carry your personal phone number. Write "Contact through father or guardian" for a boy, or "Contact through Wali" for a girl. If you are using a marriage bureau, write "Contact through HumNikah". You can add a line such as "Photograph available on request" and share it later, when both families are serious.
What to leave out
- Aadhaar, PAN, passport or any other ID number
- bank, salary or property details
- your full home address
- your personal phone number, if the biodata will be shared widely
- any mention of dowry, or demands about complexion or appearance
Mistakes to avoid
- Making it too long. More than one page is rarely read.
- Exaggerating. Inflated education, income or job titles are usually found out, and they damage trust.
- Using old or heavily edited photographs. If you share one, make sure it looks like you.
- Forgetting to update it. Check that your age, job and city are current.
- Sending it everywhere. Share it directly with people you trust. A biodata posted in a public group can be saved and forwarded by anyone.

FAQs
How long should a Muslim biodata be?
One page. A short biodata is easier to read, easy to send on WhatsApp and quick to print.
Should I add a photograph?
It is optional. Many families share a photograph only after both sides are serious. You can write "photograph available on request".
Should the biodata include a phone number?
If it will be shared widely, use a parent's, a Wali's or a bureau's contact instead of a personal number.
Is Word or PDF better?
Use Word to edit your details and PDF to share, because the layout stays the same on every device.
Is it free to submit my biodata to HumNikah?
Yes. Submitting your biodata to HumNikah is free. You can submit it on the website or message us on WhatsApp first.
